Lee Camp No. 1 nice and just. Stewart no 3 ??? What was he last season? Nardiello falling off the bottom I see. Not sure about the Ray shirt number thing but given these guys attitudes it's probably a good thing. Should retire somehow but have some sort of memorial type thing. If his family want that, obviously. Up to them at the end of the day. |

Mahon number 4? Rowlands number 14? No gaps for Gorkss etc. Odd. |

Hasn't Rowly always been 14? Some players like to keep a shirt number they've done well in Mahon, the new Ray Wilkins...err... |

Yeah, I was quite surprised to see Ray at 31, as I thought they'd retired it too. I assume it's a way of doing that, and as long as the family are happy that's cool. |

I'm baffled by the Ray Jones comments on here. He's listed and people say they thought the club had retired the shirt... er, they have, that's why Ray still has it. Isn't that blatantly obvious or am i missing something? i think it's a tremendous gesture, and one i'm fairly sure was made clear last season, after all, last season he had the no.18 or 19 shirt, but it was reverted to 31 as that was what he wore most often. And Rowly's had 5 chances to change his short before, he obviously likes 14, like Furs liking 29. |

I guess I'm confused by the concept of 'retiring' a shirt.
Does the retirement mean squad listings from now until the end of time will list Ray Jones as number 31? Will "31 Ray Jones" be in matchday programmes in the year 2029? I don't have a problem with a number never being used again, but it does seem like the gesture of listing Ray Jones every time squad numbers are mentioned could be a little confusing. I didn't mean this to be offensive or insensitive, I just thought that the shirt number would never be used again and we would get some sort of lasting tribute to Ray (such as a plaque on the stadium).
I wasn't expecting to see the name and number in the squad listing, that's all. If most of you were expecting to see it, then I simply must have misunderstood the concept of retiring a shirt. We should be glad it doesn't have to happen so frequently that we're all crystal clear on the 'rules'.

| I don`t think anyone saw it as offensive or insensitive, but yes it is confusing, i wasn`t expecting to see the shirt listed but mounted/framed in an allocated space for all to see, to new supporters they could easily get the wrong end of the stick. |
